FA15 Management of traditional rural biotopes
Traditional rural biotopes are open or semi-open habitats that have been created by traditional animal husbandry practices such as mowing or grazing.Through a continuous removal of a major share of their primary production chraracteristic species assemblages have developd into traditional rural biotopes. Often these assemblages are very diverse.Traditional rural biotopes can be divided into several habitat types based on soil type, moisture conditions and tree cover.
The management of traditional rural biotopes includes mainly grazing by livestock as well as mowing and collecting of hay. The removal of trees and bushes may also be necessary when old pastures are brought back within management.
