Finland’s Biodiversity Action Plan comprises three actions for fishing (actions 70–72). At the end of 2018, they were all still being implemented, but proceeding according to schedule.
Sustainable fishing has been improved by renewing the Fishing Act and Fishing Decree in 2016. The management of fish stocks is being organised anew, as the new fishing economic regions are instated in 2019 and begin to devise plans for the use and management of fish in their respective areas (action 70; on track to completion).
More resources have been designated to the implementing the fishway strategy. Restoration projects for migratory fish have started in ten areas and fishways have been built to seven key sites listed in the strategy (action 71; on track to completion).
The preparation of the EU management plan for Baltic salmon continues (action 72; on track to completion).
