Function
Function indicators define the ability of the ecosystem to produce ecosystem services in a certain time frame. Also spatial units can be involved when the indicator represents the productivity of an area in certain time unit (e.g. kg/ha/a). For function indicators it is important to acknowledge the human inputs in form of productivity accelerating activities, such as use of fertilizers or treatment practices. Some human activities can also restrict the natural productivity. Function indicators for cultural services represent the change or the continuity of nature as people experience. This includes natural events and changes in phenology. |
