Landscape

Landscapes were an important element of developing national identity in the end of the 19th century and these ideas still determine Finland and Finns to some extent. In the 1990s 156 nationally valuable landscapes were identified in Finland. Landscapes are considered central for maintaining cultural history, providing aesthetic experiences and promoting tourism, for example.
