Structure: Valuable landscapes


There are 156 defined landscapes in Finland that have been evaluated as nationally valuable. These areas are agricultural landscapes that represent diverse rural nature, long-standing cultivated lands and traditional building base.

Nationally valuable landscapes can be found throughout Finland from the Archipelago Sea to the Northern Lapland. The density of the landscapes is, nevertheless, highest in the southern parts of the country.

National landscapes of Finland characterize the most representative natural and cultural features. There are 27 selected areas that include, for example, intact natural areas, old agricultural landscapes, villages, areas that have had a role in the industrialization process as well as city districts. National landscapes have considerable symbolic value. Their cultural and historical significance has been widely acknowledged.
