FO2 Fellings
Clear fellings refer to fellings where all but so called retention trees are removed. The purpose of the retention trees is to preserve biodiversity. The next tree generation is planted or seeded.
In seed and sheltertree fellings, trees are left to felling area in order to produce the new sapling stand and/or to regulate the microclimate and vegetation of the felling area. The density of the seed or shelter trees varies by the tree type. In Scots pine forests, usually 50-150 seed trees are left per hectare, in birch forests 10-20 and spruce forests 100-300.
