MI1 Mire drainage status

National Forest inventory (NFI) is a monitoring scheme which produces information on forests and forest resources. Data are based on field measurements as well as remote sensing and other sources. Sampled plots are located in clusters and form a regular network over the whole country.

On recently drained mires draining has not yet affected the ground vegetation or the growth of trees. Mires with clogged-up drains. to which the original hydrology is slowly returning. are also classified as recently drained mires.

On transforming mires drainage has increased the growth of trees. but ground vegetation still consists mainly of mire vegetation.

On transformed mires ground vegetation consists of upland vegetation and the growth of trees is no longer limited by the excess of water.
