MI10 Threatened mire species
Threatened species are species which face the risk of extinction as a result of the smallness of their population or range, or the continuing decrease of either of these. Extinctions may happen either globally (permanent extinction) or regionally from a certain geographical area. The latest red list assessments have not included causes of threat as criteria - they may be natural or anthropomorphic. There are three classes of threatened species:
1. Critically Endangered (CR)
2. Endagered (EN)
3. Vulnerable (VU)
On top of these, the Red List of Finnish species includes:
4. Regionally extinct (RE)
5. Near-threatened (NT)
6. Data Deficientt (DD)
Red list assessments have been carried out four times in Finland, in 1985, 1990, 2000 and 2010. The next assessment is likely to be published in 2020. The results of the different assessment should not be compared directly due to changes in assessment criteria and increase of knowledge, for example.
