SH5 Red-listed shore species
Red-listed species are species, which are faced with the risk of extinction as a result of the smallness of their population or range or the continuing decrease of either of these. Extinctions may happen either globally (permanent extinction) or locally from a certain geographical area (local extinction). The latest red-list assessments have not included causes of extinction as a criteria - they may be natural or anthropomorphic. There are three classes of red-listed species:
1. Critically Endangered (CR)
2. Endagered (EN)
3. Vulnerable (VU)
Red-list assessments have been carried out three times in Finland, in 1985, 1990 and 2000. The next assessment will be published in 2010.
